The Williams School welcomed nearly 150 grandparents and special family members for our annual Grandparents & Special Family Members Day on November 22. The event provided a special opportunity for students to connect family members with their teachers and showcase their accomplishments during the first trimester.
The day began with guests and their students having commemorative photos taken before heading to the Student Center for a wonderful breakfast by our dining staff and served by members of our Parents Association. Afterward, guests gathered in the Daren Performing Arts Center for remarks from Head of School Mark Fader on the state of the School and a digital presentation of academic, athletic, and artistic highlights from the first trimester of the new school year. Students and guests then attended several class sessions with many collaborative activities for students and guests to enjoy together.
One highlight was a session in history teacher Will Martin’s seventh-grade American History class. The students created a Kahoot quiz for the grandparents and special friends, focusing on key events of the American Revolution. This interactive lesson demonstrated Williams’ commitment to hands-on, engaging learning.
Another memorable class was science teacher Stephanie Lane’s Science in Society course, which explores the impact of science and technology on global society. Students traced their ancestry and discussed the historical evolution of skin tone by marking their family’s origins on a world map. This activity encouraged both students and their guests to reflect on history and culture together, creating a meaningful and educational experience.
Grandparents & Special Family Members Day highlighted all that Williams has to offer, allowing students to take pride in their achievements and share their learning with those who are important to them.
