The 2025 Spring Musical, Sweeney Todd, was performed April 24-26 in the Daren Performing Arts Center. The production tells the story of Benjamin Barker, better known as Sweeney Todd, and his return to London after a wrongful prison sentence. As he seeks revenge on the corrupt judge who tore his family apart, he forms a dark partnership with Mrs. Lovett, a pie shop owner with a grisly method of disposing of his victims.
Zara Asim ’26, who played Mrs. Lovett, reflected on the camaraderie among the cast. “This show was probably one of my most favorite shows that I’ve done here,” she said. “It was a great production, and the cast all came together to create a little family. I got to talk to people I usually would never talk to. It was an amazing experience.”
Sweeney Todd is a demanding production, with its complex stage design, dramatic lighting, and challenging musical score. These elements required a high level of coordination and effort from both the cast and crew.
“Being the house manager allowed me to experience the show for three days in a row, which let me fully appreciate the effort and strength of all our actors,” said Julia Battista ’26. “From the ensemble to the main actors, everyone put in a tremendous amount of effort, and being there gave me the pleasure of watching my friends flourish on stage.”
