The 2025 spring sports season was spectacular! Our Boys Varsity Lacrosse team captured their fourth straight HVAL Championship with a commanding win over Harvey, while our Girls Varsity Lacrosse team fought hard in the HVAL semi-finals, ultimately falling to Wooster, 8–9, in an intense nail-biter. Meanwhile, our sailing and tennis teams also showed impressive strength on the water and courts, respectively. Both lacrosse teams earned prestigious NEPSAC and HVAL honors, highlighting their talent and dedication. What an incredible way to close out the 2024–2025 school year!
Boys Varsity Lacrosse

The 2025 Boys Varsity Lacrosse season was dominant from start to finish, with the Blues finishing 13–2 overall and securing their fourth straight HVAL Championship. The team opened the season with five straight wins, including key victories over Eagle Hill, Wooster, and Bancroft, and finished the regular season with a six-game winning streak.
Midfielder Henry Champagne ’26 led the team with 49 goals, 32 assists, and more than 30 ground balls. Attackman Baker Katko ’25 added 38 goals and 21 assists, while Marc Macera ’25 contributed 32 goals and 26 assists. Midfielder Finn McCann ’25 finished with 24 goals and 23 assists, and Ethan Perl ’27 chipped in 9 goals. On defense, Brian Li ’25 led with 46 ground balls and several caused turnovers, while goalie Henry Gallagher ’25 anchored the back line with 115 total saves.
In the HVAL Championship, the Blues defeated Harvey School 13–11 behind standout performances from Champagne (5 goals, 1 assist), Katko (4 goals, 3 assists), and Gallagher (15 saves).

Girls Varsity Lacrosse

The Girls Varsity Lacrosse team enjoyed a fast-paced and competitive 2025 season, finishing 8–6 overall. The Blues earned important wins over Christian Heritage, Bancroft, and Harvey, closing the regular season with a three-game winning streak before a narrow semifinal loss to Wooster in the HVAL tournament.
Ally Iacobellis ’26 led the way with 72 goals, ranking among the league’s top scorers and anchoring the team’s offense. Elle Reid ’29 added 30 goals, 27 draw controls, and showcased strong two-way play. Annie Gingras ’29 scored 21 goals, while Alexa Pesarik ’28 contributed 12 goals and 16 ground balls. Goalie Chloe Crimmins ’27 anchored the defense with 87 saves, and captains Marlee Anselmi ’25 and Brooke McLoughlin ’25 led the back line with relentless pressure and key recoveries.

Turning to the courts, the Varsity Coed Tennis Team showed steady growth and strong leadership throughout the season. Co-captains Annie Shay ’27 and Sadie Rotolo ’27 led by example, with Annie excelling in singles and Sadie shining in doubles. Jonny Gould ’30 and Will Corkhill ’29 formed a formidable doubles pair, while Nick Cosentino ’30 and Julian Thorn ’30 also contributed key wins.
Despite facing early challenges in cold, rainy conditions, the team gained momentum with important victories, including a six-match sweep at Oxford Academy and a dominant 8–0 win over Rectory School. The Blues closed the season with a solid 5–1 win over Oxford, highlighted by impressive singles and doubles performances across the lineup.

On the water, the Coed Sailing Team opened the spring with an undefeated 3–0 regatta at UConn Avery Point, showcasing strong teamwork and skill across multiple races. Seniors Liam Boland, Jacob Bates, Sven Ericsson IV, and Hayden Ginz received well-deserved recognition for their leadership.
The team continued to impress with solid wins against Xavier and others, even in challenging conditions during the O’Day and Herreshoff Fleet Race Qualifiers. Throughout the season, Williams sailors demonstrated exceptional sportsmanship and teamwork, earning praise from competitors and race officials alike.

Varsity Track
The 2025 season was a strong one for our one-man track team, Jaidel Thomas ’26, who showed impressive range and steady improvement across events.
He opened at The Wheeler School with a second-place finish in the 400 meters (57.7 seconds) and a heat win in the 800. On April 30, he won the 400 (55.1), placed sixth in the 800 (2:22), and seventh in the 1500 (4:55). At the NEPSAC District 3 Championship, Jaidel ran a personal-best 54.97 in the 400 (12th place) and finished 19th in the 1500 (4:44), capping off a memorable season.

The Boys MS/JV Lacrosse Team had a strong and determined season marked by key wins and impressive comebacks. Marek Soboleski ’28 and John Paul Champagne ’31 led the offensive charge, while goalie Jake Gjonaj ’30 showed remarkable growth with several game-saving stops. Calvin Rossman ’31 and Hutch Walsh ’30 dominated the faceoff circle, giving the team valuable possessions throughout each game.
Defensively, the team improved steadily with solid contributions from Will Dockery ’29, Shawn DeCastro ’30, and others, helping the Blues stay competitive in tough matchups. The squad’s resilience was on full display with multiple late-game rallies and hard-fought ties, highlighting their teamwork and grit. Overall, it was a successful season that laid a strong foundation for continued growth.

The Girls MS/JV Lacrosse Team got off to a strong start with a season-opening win over East Lyme. Elle Reid ’29 led with 3 goals and 3 assists, Juliette Foisie ’29 added 3 goals and 2 assists, and goalie Maggie Keenan ’29 made 8 saves. The team remained undefeated through early wins over Rectory and Pine Point, with Reid, Foisie, and Victoria Falkenstein ’28 leading offensively. Keenan and Chloe Crimmins ’27 anchored the defense with key saves.
The Blues extended their streak to 4–0 before tying Pine Point 10–10 in a thrilling comeback. Multiple players contributed goals, and Keenan continued to shine in goal. The team finished the season with a hard-fought win over Saint Michael’s, showing great teamwork and determination throughout.
