Snowboarding

Baker Katko '25

Baker is a snowboarder who lives, trains and competes in Vermont during the winter. He competes in the USASA series which is a National organization that runs regional Snowboard and Freeski competitions throughout the season. Athletes score points based upon their finishes locally and those points can earn them a spot at Nationals where the top ranked athletes from each region compete against each other. Baker qualified to compete at Nationals (Copper Mountain, Colorado) in Slopestyle, Boardercross, Rail Jam. He just missed the podium finishing 5th (out of 60 riders) in Slopestyle (a combination of rails and jumps) and 4th (out of 54 riders) in Boardercross (4 riders at a time compete on a track in a bracket style format, the two winners from each heat move on to the next round). He had a crash during the Rail Jam event so unfortunately had to withdraw. He also competed in Futures Tours which is a FIS run event and allows him to earn points toward the next tier of events, Rev Tour. Rev Tour is a qualifier for the World Cup. He participated in several local Rail Jams, The Vermont Open and Homesick.
Thankfully, with the help of his teachers at Williams and tutors in Vermont he was able to keep up with his schoolwork and rejoin his classmates without falling behind.

Golf

Elle Reid '29

Elle started playing golf when she was 5 years old. She did the Little Clubbers program at the Old Lyme Country Club and played often with her parents, younger sister and grandfather.  She played in her first competitive US Kids Golf tournament in 2018.  Since then, she has played in over 50 events including two trips to the US Kids Golf World Championships and a top 100 national finish for Drive, Chip and Putt (2019).
Over the last year, Elle has worked her way up the rankings finishing well within the top 5 in New England (11-12 yo division).  The highlight of her 2023 season, so far, was her trip to the 2023 World Championships in Pinehurst, NC in August.  To qualify, golfers had to demonstrate the ability to score under 80 in competition.  Elle was the only 12 year old female golfer to attend from CT and one of only three from New England.  The overall field is limited to the top 120 global golfers within the age group.  There were 15 countries and 40 states represented by the field.  Elle was the flag bearer for CT in the “Parade of Nations” during the opening ceremony.
Elle begins her Fall 2023 season at the end of August and then will pick up a basketball in the winter and a lacrosse stick in the spring!
