With Gratitude

Dear Members of The Williams School Community,

I am pleased to share with you Williams Annual Report of Giving representing the remarkable support we received throughout the past fiscal year from July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023. This report is a way of recognizing and thanking everyone for investing in The Williams School at every level. I am truly grateful for the amazing generosity our donors have provided throughout.

As a School, we receive generous gifts from donors, who fall into numerous categories: alumni, alumni parents, grandparents, parents, students, trustees, corporations, foundations, and friends. Through your collective generosity, we were able to meet and exceed our designated Annual Fund goal of $400,000. This year, we also had an additional fundraising challenge to raise $100,000 for a matching grant from the EE Ford Foundation. We were one of 34 schools nationwide to be awarded this opportunity. Designated monies from the EE Ford Foundation will provide our juniors and seniors the opportunity to participate in our new College Acceleration program taking a full semester of college courses at Connecticut College before they graduate from Williams. By July 31, we met and exceeded our goal and thus received an additional $50,000 from the EE Ford Foundation. We remain committed to raising funds for the endowment; as of August 1, our endowment was at $14.1 million. The bulk of your generous Annual Fund gifts provide the needed monies to support our talented and dedicated faculty and staff and the strong delivery of a great teaching and learning program enriching the lives of our enthusiastic students each day.

As many of you know, two of my favorite words are Thank You, and it gives me great pleasure to Thank each every one of You for choosing to support Williams by giving to the Annual Fund, EE Ford Fund, our endowment, and/or attending the many spirited school-sponsored events held last year. Your giving inspires, enhances, and strengthens all of us as we continue to live by The Williams School’s Mission and Core Values of Scholarship, Character, and Community. As ever, I am most thankful for your support.

Williams is a special place grounded in education and rooted in community and character, and we believe that families choose Williams because they want the best learning and growing environment for their children. Our children, Abbigail ’16, Carolyn ’18, Benjamin ’23, and Claire ’29 have received an exceptional education, and offered life lessons that only the Williams community can provide and for which we are profoundly grateful. Over the years, we’ve witnessed our children thrive academically, socially, and personally, thanks to the dedicated faculty, curriculum, and nurturing environment that Williams offers.

It is because of this and so much more that my wife Melinda and I choose to support Williams by donating to the Annual Fund and other fundraising campaigns and volunteering our time on the Board of Trustees and in the Parents Association. We believe in doing our part so that future generations of students can benefit from the same transformative educational experience that our own children received.

I attended Williams for both middle and high school and graduated as a member of the class of 2014. The experiences I had at Williams during these formative years played a meaningful role in shaping me into the person I am today. The skills, capabilities and knowledge I learned at Williams gave me a strong foundation to pursue a STEM curriculum at the University of Connecticut where I ultimately graduated with a degree in Applied Mathematics. In addition to guiding my higher education and professional progression, Williams has helped me personally with developing values such as community, integrity, and stewardship.

I choose to support Williams as a gesture of appreciation for what the school has given to me and to contribute to the sustainability of the school. I donate each year to the annual fund and sponsor the PLP annual Golf Tournament. I also volunteer my time as member on the Board of Trustees and in the role of Alumni Board President. I hope that with this support the school can continue to provide a strong education to its students and produce outstanding graduates.”

Financial Advisor, Increase Impact by Financial Matching
I am grateful to be part of the Williams Community. Over the past six years, I have had two of my children graduate from Williams and currently have a junior attending. Through the years, I have enjoyed supporting the school with my time serving on the Board of Trustees, volunteering and being active on several committees . I treasure the education and the excellent mentoring the children receive. Williams does a wonderful job at teaching their students to pursue their passions and to have their own voice. My two older kids are having a successful time pursuing their college education both academically and socially. Through the guidance of Williams, they are strong writers, good communicators and are in constant pursuit of their unique interests.

Having served on the Board of Trustees, I had the opportunity to see firsthand the amount of thoughtfulness and care that goes into building a great educational experience for our children. I am forever grateful for the education and support our family has received and continues to receive. It is my honor to support The Williams School now and in the future by donating to the future success of Williams. My company is a huge advocate for education, and I am able to increase the impact of my gift by leveraging the corporate match.

As grandparents of two Williams School students since sixth grade, we have been so impressed with the quality of education they have been provided.

Our granddaughter is now a senior and loves her classes. She has been excelling academically in a program that not only inspires her, but also supports her dual enrollment in college-level classes at Connecticut College which is on the same campus. Our grandson is now a sophomore at his dream university. We know both kids succeed in part because of the superb academic foundation built at Williams.

We have been repeatedly impressed with the level of teaching our grandchildren have enjoyed, especially in the classics department, Latin and Greek, which is equal to, if not better than, its equivalents at top boarding schools.

We are truly grateful to The Williams School for preparing our grandchildren so beautifully for excellent futures in college and beyond.

EE Ford & College Acceleration Program

The College Acceleration Program offers Williams’ students the opportunity to take four classes at Connecticut College over the course of their Junior and Senior years, allowing them to gain a higher education experience at Connecticut College and receive a Connecticut College Transcript with Four Courses and Corresponding Credits alongside their Williams Diploma.

In anticipation of the financial needs to support the College Acceleration Program, we applied for, and were awarded a $50,000 grant through The Edward E. Ford Foundation. In order for us to receive these funds, the Foundation required Williams to raise $100,000 by July 31st in order to receive the matching funds. We are grateful to the more than 30 supporters who helped us secure more than $100,000, ensuring Williams will receive the $50,000 matching grant from E.E. Ford.

College Acceleration Program

Investing in Athletic Complex Experience

Senior Parent Gift

The addition of the new sound system at the Athletic Complex will result in a better overall experience for athletes and spectators alike. Both our scholar-athletes and spectators will now have the ability to listen to music during pre-game warm-ups, follow the action through play-by-play commentary, and receive updates and recognition throughout their experience at the Athletic Complex.
