Science Teacher

OVERVIEW

The Williams School seeks a full-time science teacher beginning in the 2024-2025 academic year. The ideal candidate will have the ability to teach biology at college prep, honors, and advanced levels. In addition, the candidate would have the ability to teach an elective exploring contemporary topics in science. Applicants must be enthusiastic, energetic, and willing to teach as a member of a team in conjunction with other department members. The position requires skill in fostering active and interactive learning to engage students fully in science exploration, laboratory experiments, content and skills acquisition, as well as experience in the use of technology to enhance learning. The position also serves as a student advisor and participates fully in the life of the school. Previous experience teaching in a school setting and a major in Biology is required; experience in an independent school preferred.

In 2022-2023, the academic calendar moved to trimesters with new interdisciplinary courses being offered to upper school students in addition to the current course offerings. In the 2022-2023 academic year, four certificate programs began for students in their sophomore year to continue through their senior year. In addition, a College Acceleration program in which students during their junior and senior years enroll in courses at Connecticut College launched in the 2022-2023 academic year.

Marketing Communications Associate

 

OVERVIEW

  • Twelve-month administrative position with occasional weekend and evening hours
  • Reports to the Assistant Head of School for Enrollment & Advancement, accountable to the School’s Advancement Team that oversees the Lifecycle of School Engagement – Enrollment, Marketing Communications, and Development and Alumni Engagement

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The objectives of the Advancement Team are to engage, recruit, and maintain mission appropriate students and families to Williams and grow the School’s enrollment and donors/donations in order to maintain a strong community of stakeholders committed to the School’s core values and to insure financial sustainability for the institution. Primary responsibilities of the Marketing Communications Associate include:

  • Coordinate and implement community engagement events/activities focused on lead generation (outreach), recruitment, enrollment, and development
  • Develop and publish content for the School’s website and microsites, social media, and other digital mediums (weekly and quarterly newsletters, annual report and magazine) as well as print mediums (promotional materials, publications, gifts/premiums, etc.)
  • Oversee Blackbaud database management and data input for Enrollment Management and Development/Alumni Engagement 
  • Assist with Market research projects

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required
  • Superb skills in writing/editing, publication design and layout, social media, photography and media relations
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Passion for results, strong work ethic, and a winning attitude
  • High level of professional confidentiality
  • Organized, detail oriented, and able to multitask
  • Solid presentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and be a self-starter
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including occasional evenings and weekends

EXPERIENCE

  • Proven marketing communications and engagement event/activity planning/management skills 
  • Writing skills and the ability to communicate in a tone that accurately reflects the School
  • Working knowledge of digital media and communications design and data management platforms (examples: Blackbaud, HubSpot, Google Suite, Canva, etc.)
  • Basic photography/videography skills (mainly for social media purpose)

Chief Financial Officer

Job Summary

The Chief Financial Officer is an integral part of the senior leadership team and is responsible for managing the financial and physical resources of the school. The person in this position reports directly to the Head of School.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard assets, protect confidential information, and ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Oversee school business functions, including: tuition billing and collection, accounts payable, contracting, payroll, human resources, accounting and reporting, regulatory reporting and compliance, and other business administration activities.
  • Oversee the School’s endowment and investment policy.
  • Oversee the School’s annual audit and all compliance therein.
  • Work with the Director of Facilities to oversee the maintenance of the buildings, grounds, and equipment.
  • Support the Assistant Head for Enrollment and Advancement on enrollment contract and financial aid processes.
  • Support the Director of Development on annual fund and capital campaign processes pertaining to reconciliation of development reports and business office accounts.
  • Administer the annual budget and multi-year forecasting process to align with the School’s goals and mission and maintain account records related to the School’s budget.
  • Work with the leadership team to develop and oversee annual departmental budgets.
  • Provide financial reports to school leadership and the Board of Trustees.
  • Participate in the ongoing development of the strategic plan, providing recommendations, financial analysis, projections, and other data to inform the process.
  • Collaborate with and assist the Head of School and the Board of Trustees in meeting fiduciary responsibilities.
  • Ensure timely and accurate filings of all state and federal documents required by a non-profit organization and otherwise. 
  • Oversee Business Office staff to ensure that all policies and practices are clearly articulated, consistently applied, and conform to legal requirements.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop direct reports – providing constructive and timely feedback (including annual reviews). Model and foster high ethical standards, integrity, and respect for colleagues, alumni/ae, parents, and students in the conduct of the School’s business.
  • Remain current with business management trends and cultivate professional standards and development by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in local, regional, and national professional organizations.
  • Understand the culture and climate of the School and the wider educational environment.
  • Communicate clearly, positively, and enthusiastically to all staff and stakeholders.
  • Perform additional duties from time to time as assigned by the Head of School that may be required for operation of the School.

Qualification Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, accounting or finance preferred
  • Five years of experience in finance/accounting
  • Proven success in a senior administrative role, preferably working for a non-profit organization governed by a Board of Trustees
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities – managing people and processes
  • High ethical and confidentiality standards
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with all stakeholders
  • The ability to work collaboratively with coworkers and other school community members
  • Keen analytical skills and a detail-oriented work style
